All students will learn to read chord chart notation, fingering and strumming patterns on the ukulele. “Ukulele karate” is used to track student achievement and progress. Students will also self assess.

Students will enjoy learning singing games, folk dance, hip hop and modern dance, playing instruments and actively listening to various genres of music, including classical. Students will learn a variety of classroom repertoire songs on recorder as an introduction to standard notation. “Recorder karate” is used to track progress and achievement. Students will also self assess.

Develop and refine ideas, processes and technical skills in a variety of art forms to improve the quality of artistic creations
Adapt learned skills, understandings and processes for use in new contexts and for different purposes and audiences
Learning goals (Content)
Read, identify and play notation, both standard and chord charts
Personal and collective responsibility associated with creating, experiencing or presenting in a safe learning environment.
Students will enjoy learning both chord charts and tab notation on the acoustic guitar. “Guitar karate” is used to track progress and achievement. Students will also self assess.
During second term students will be introduced to pianos and engage in a self-directed inquiry based study leading to performance for the purpose of peer review and assessment. Students will also self assess.
Grade 5/6/7 Concert Band
